Frienemies...

Mathei Jackel had many christian friends. One day when he was walking home from school, some of his friends dared him to jump into a pond with them. Seeing no danger, he agreed. He regretted it when he jumped in. His friends said, "Nice job, Dirty Jew. You'll never come out alive!" They punched him, kicked him scratched, and dunked him under the water.
Luckily, 7 year old Mathei managed to escape free, and limped home, bloody and bruised. After that, his parents transferred him to an all jewish school. (Book lost again. Name of school later) That didn't stop them from calling him a dirty jew.
WORD OF THE DAY- Dirty Jew- A bad name for jewish kids, given to any jew, whether they were clean or not.

Early Life And Other Information

Mathei Jackel grew up in Timisoara, Romania. His parent's names were Bernhard, a traveling salesman, and his mother, Josefine, a stay-at-home mom. Mathei knew three languages. German, Hungarian, and Romanian. He spoke German at home, Hungarian outside, and Romanian during school.
He had many friends, although they became nasty when the war started, details later. By the way, I found the book. YAY! Oh, and there are no WORD OF THE DAYS, because I didn't use any hard to know words! I will tell the story of his friends turned bad another day.

His Family

Mathei's family included his little brother and sister, and his mom and dad. When the war started, he was separated from them, when his brother and himself had to leave the house to protect themselves from an aktzia. (I might have spelled that word wrong, and if so I'll correct it later.)
During the war, his father was killed in Auschvitz. (Might be spelled wrong also.) The rest of his family survived, but he didn't see them again until they joined him in Israel, about 30 years after the war.

WORDS OF THE DAY- Aktzia- An attack on a certain group of people, like little boys, or old women, etc. During WORLD WAR II.
Auschvitz- A concentration camp (killing camp) in Poland that is famous for how badly it treated the Jews.

"I Am A Partisan Now!"

These words were said by Mathei Jackel, when an old German soldier rescued him, who was a partisan. He then stayed with the partisans for the rest of the war after that. He set off explosives, lived in the forest, at only 10 years old!
Once, he was even put to a test to kill a Nazi sympathizer, but he was frightened to do so. He held the gun up, closed his eyes, and pulled the trigger. With the boom ringing in his ears, he ran out.

WORDS OF THE DAY- Partisan- Old German soldiers or other men who resembled each others hatred for the Nazis who came together as a group destroying the Nazi territories, and taking food and such from Nazi sympathizers.
Sympathizers- People who favored groups of people, or voted or helped those people.

A Holocost Survivor- Mathei Jackel

Mathei Jackel was a holocost survivor, with an interesting story that I needed to express, so I made a blog about him. This site will have continuing stories from throughout the holocost, how he survived, and eventually, what he did after the war.
I hope you enoy my blog. I am getting this information from a book, and I thought his story was interesting. I read it last week, and I seemed to have misplaced the book, but when I find it I shall be able to tell you the story better.

WORD OF THE DAY- Holocost- A period of time that took place in the forties when the jewish race was trying to be exterminated by a group of Germans called NAZIS.
